Six sub-themes were also identified to support this definition and to underscore how individualized care for Black patients can have a positive impact on their care experience:
1. Compassion: Providers should show empathy, compassion and concern for Black patients
2. Collaborative: Providers should prioritize shared decision-making and bi-directional learning and listening while caring for Black patients
3. Individualized: Providers should personalize and acknowledge each patient’s unique experience
4. Trust: Providers must consistently earn and maintain a trusting relationship with each patient
5. Listening: Providers should respect and provide space to listen, understand, and hear their patients
