Our approach to support patients and families
The UCSF Pregnancy After Loss clinic is designed specifically to support our patients and families who have experienced a stillbirth, neonatal loss, or those who ended their pregnancy due to pregnancy complications. We work to support patients after their loss, or if they are in (or planning) their next pregnancy after loss.
Our clinic is designed to nurture and support patients and their families through pregnancy loss or a pregnancy after loss with comprehensive care and specialized obstetric services.
UCSF Health is among the first recognized centers within the U.S. Pregnancy After Loss (USPAL) Network that aims
to improve care in pregnancy after loss - including patient experience, mental health outcomes, and birth outcomes.

- Grief focused support and counseling in postpartum period
- Social work support and referrals for mental health services
- Close and specialized ultrasound monitoring
- Sophisticated genetic counseling, screening and testing
- High-level prenatal and obstetrics care
- Neonatology consultations
- Access to Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, Genetic Counselors, nurses, and mental health providers who are specialized in caring for patients who experienced a pregnancy loss
