Healthcare Provider for Baby

While you are in the hospital, a team of UCSF pediatric nurse practitioners and doctors are responsible for examining and caring for your baby. We recommend that at 36 weeks of your pregnancy, you choose a pediatrician, family doctor or nurse practitioner to provide medical care for your baby once you go home. The baby’s information will be forwarded to the healthcare provider you choose. Your baby’s first appointment will be scheduled for you before leaving the hospital. You do not have to set up a pediatric appointment before your baby is due. 

There are many health care providers to choose from in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Make sure the one you choose:
Accepts your health insurance and is relatively convenient to your home
Review INSURANCE COVERAGE information.

Be sure to call your health insurance provider within 30 days of your delivery to include your baby in your
health insurance plan.
