What enabled us to develop COVID-19 vaccines with such speed? How should we best prepare for future outbreaks? Has the pandemic forever changed how science is done?
On March 9, UC San Francisco gathered leading Bay Area scientists and clinicians to reflect on the scientific challenges and breakthroughs of the past year since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. The talk was part of a three-part series, COVID-19: The Path Forward. The other discussions are scheduled for March 16 and March 23.
In a wide-ranging discussion the panel reflected on the last year and talked about unanswered questions that lie ahead as the world works to recover from the pandemic.
The virtual panel, moderated by UCSF Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Dan Lowenstein, MD, featured Joe DeRisi, PhD; Jennifer Doudna, PhD; Joel Ernst, MD; Annie Luetkemeyer, MD; and Aashish Manglik, MD, PhD; in a discussion and question-and answer session.
