Ellen Goldstein, MA, CO-OP, has been named the new director of UC San Francisco’s Office of the Ombuds.

She will replace Maureen Brodie, MA, CO-OP, who is retiring.

“Ellen’s extensive training and experience at UCSF, especially on the Office of the Ombuds team, make her an excellent fit for the director role,” said Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Brian Alldredge, PharmD. “She is known for her dedication to the UCSF community and outstanding track record for collaborating with units from across the University to achieve results.”

The UCSF Office of the Ombuds provides alternative dispute resolution services for all members of the UCSF community, including faculty, staff, administrators, students, post-doctoral fellows and other trainees. The services, which are protected from disclosure, offer a safe, confidential place to discuss campus-related issues and explore possibilities for informally addressing concerns.

Goldstein joined the Office of the Ombuds in 2012 and is a Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner. With a Master’s degree in social psychology and additional training in group facilitation, she brings expertise about the complexity of interpersonal dynamics. Her group facilitation experience includes working with both small and large group processes for non-profit organizations, academic efforts and local and national government entities.

Goldstein’s career at UCSF has spanned over 30 years and several roles. Her earlier work focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, health equity, and linking research to practice. Prior to coming to the Office of the Ombuds, she managed the CTSI Community Engagement and Health Policy program, co-taught the TICR course on Community-Engaged Research, helped launch the Center for Community Engagement, and conducted and consulted on research efforts at the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies.
